Classical Fiqh Programme

The Jibreel Institute Fiqh programme aims to equip students with the essential rules required to fulfil their everyday obligatory ritual worship (ibadaat) as well as marriage and divorce. The course is divided into stand-alone modules to enable students to enrol on chapters relevant for them. Upon sucessful completion of the modules, students will accuire a solid foundation in each subject matter.

Module 1: Fiqh of Purification & Prayer | Mukhtasar Al-Quduri
Learning the rules of Purification & Prayer is a personal obligation (Fard ‘Ayn) for all adult Muslims. The classical text, Mukhtasar al-Quduri, is an authoratative primer in Hanafi Fiqh and has been extensivey used in classical curricula throughout the world. This course will teach the chapters of Purification and Prayer, covering all the important aspects related to the prerequisites and integrals of wudu, ghusl, tayammum, as well as the different types of prayers like fard, wajib, Sunna, jumua, janazah, and ‘eid.

Module 2: Fiqh of Zakat, Fasting & Hajj | Mukhtasar Al-Quduri
Learning the rules of Zakat, Fasting & Hajj is a personal obligation (Fard ‘Ayn) for all adult Muslims who meet the qualifying criteria. This course continues with the classical text of Mukhtasar al-Quduri an authoratative primer in Hanafi Fiqh. The course will teach the chapters of Zakat, Fasting & Hajj covering all the important aspects related to each area.

Module 3: Fiqh of Marriage & Divorce | Mukhtasar Al-Quduri
Using Mukhtasar al-Quduri, this course will teach the chapters of Marriage & Divorce, covering all the important aspects related to each subject including the key conditions of a marriage contract, its forms, the guardian, witnesses, rights, the mahr and temrination of marriage.

Usul Al-Fiqh

Level: 1

This course will focus on the origins, sources and legal methodology of Islamic law (usul al-fiqh). We are faced with a number of legal schools, groups and scholars, many promoting different approaches to fiqh; who should we trust? Who can we follow or should we just DIY? By understanding the accepted sources and methods by which Islamic legal rulings are derived, students will appreciate the beauty, complexity and diversity of fiqh. Students will also gain a basic understanding of usul al-fiqh to help navigate the Islamic legal landscape with confidence. Upon successful completion of the course students will have acquired a solid foundation in usul al-fiqh including definitions, historical development and the sources of Shari’a. The Qur’an and rules of legal interpretation of Shari’a texts: Sunna: legal status, classification and relationship to Qur’an,Ijma (scholarly consensus), Qiyas (legal analogy), Istihsan ( juristic preference), Istis-hab (law of presumption), ‘Urf (custom), Shar Man Qablana (pre-Qur’anic scriptural injunctions) and Qawl al Sahabi (legal opinions of a companion).
