Qur’an Studies

Tajweed in Arabic means to improve, enhance and to make better. When the term is used in relation to the Qur’an it means the knowledge and application of the rules of recitation which is an obligation when reciting the Qur’an.

In this course students will learn how to recite and articulate every letter of the Qur’an from its articulation point (Makharij) and how to give the letter its rights (Haqq) and dues of characteristics (Sifat). With emphasise on practical learning under qualified supervision, students who successfully complete the Tajweed programme will receive Ijaza (certification) in the recitation of the Qur’an.




Level: 1

Level one is for students who know the Arabic alphabets and are able to read Arabic. The student in this level will be introduced to the science of Tajweed and Qira’a (recitation) and will be taught the common errors in recitation. Students will learn about the Makharij al-Huruf (points of articulation), and rules of Isti’adha and Basmalah.
