About the Course:

A distinctive 8-day certified programme, covering the core subjects of the first year of an Islamic Sciences (Sharī’a) degree. Students will gain a solid foundation in ‘Aqīda, ‘Ulūm al-Qurān, Usūl al-Fiqh, Fiqh, Ulum al Hadīth and Tazkiya.

This unique course aims to provide students with the knowledge and tools needed to competently understand and practice their faith with a deeper understanding of Islamic sciences in our contemporary context. The programme is delivered by leading UK based scholars and experts in a highly engaging manner.

Sciences of Hadith

Hadith Terminology. Status of Sunnah. Types of Hadith and Hadith Narrators. What makes Hadith sound or weak? How Hadith is transmitted. Major collections of hadith.

Ulum al Quran | 1 Day – Sh Akram Nadwi
Sciences of the Quran
Wed 31 July
Quran definition, its names, history of revelation, collection and composition, various types of verses and terminology. Sciences of Tafsir and types of knowledge connected to the Quran.

Fiqh of Taharah & Salah | 1 Day – Sh Haytham Tamim
Law of Ritual Purification & Prayer (Based on the Hanafi School)
Thu 1 Aug
Comprehensive teaching of purification (wudu, ghusl, tayammum etc.) and rules related to the different types of ritual prayers.

Aqida At-Tahawiyya | 1 Day – Sh Shafiur Rahman
Articles of Faith

Details of what Muslims must know believe and inwardly comprehend with reference to Allah, His Names and Attributes, angels, revealed books, prophets, day of judgement and divine decree.

Usul Al Fiqh | 2 Days – Sh Shafiur Rahman
Principles of Jurisprudence
Tue 6 – Wed 7 Aug
Definitions. Sources of Islamic Law; Quran, Sunnah, Consensus and Analogy (Qiyas and Ijma). Defining and interpreting legal evidences. Objectives of Islamic Law. Public Interest.

Tazkiya | 1 Day – Sh Salman Younas
Purification of the Self

What is Tazkiya al-Nafs? It’s Quranic and Sunnah Roots. The Science of Tazkiya. Some Fundamental Concepts. Destructive & Virtuous Traits.

Shaykh Dr Muhammad Akram Nadwi
World-renowned scholar specialising in advanced Hadith sciences. A graduate of and former teacher at Nadwat al-Ulama, India and former research fellow Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. He holds a PhD in Arabic literature. Sh Akram has published widely, including the monumental 53 volume Biographical Dictionary of Women Hadith Narrators in Arabic. He is a patron of Jibreel Institute.

Shaykh Haytham Tamim
His extensive expertise spans over 30 years across the main Islamic juridical schools of thought. He has studied with some of the leading expert scholars and holds some of the highest Ijazahs (certificates) in Quran, Hadith and Fiqh. Sh Haytham is a member of a number of Fatwa and Islamic Finance Sharia boards.

Shaykh Shafiur Rahman
Studied Arabic and Sharia sciences in the UK, Ma’had al-Fath in Damascus and at Al-Azhar University, Egypt. He was awarded the shahada al-‘alimiyya (Licence in Islamic Scholarship) at ASI under the supervision of Sh Akram Nadwi. Teacher at Al-Salam Institute and director/teacher at Jibreel Institute.

Shaykh Dr Abdul Hakim Vazquez
Studied with ‘ulama from various parts of the Muslim world, has a PhD in history of Islamic law and obtained his Alimiyya under Shaykh Akram al-Nadwi. He has taught at SOAS, ASI, Qatar University and is currently a senior lecturer at Ebrahim College.

Shaykh Salman Younas
Graduated from Stony Brook University with a degree in Political Science and Religious Studies. After studying the Islamic sciences with local scholars in New York, he moved to Amman, Jordan to pursue further studies.
